The Border West Buccaneers continued their excellent season with a 70-59 playoff win over Brandon-Evansville on Wednesday night in Wheaton.  The second-seeded team in the South hit 48% of their shots from the field, as did B-E.  The Bucs had a 33-28 edge on the boards and had 21 assists on their 30 made baskets.  They also had 50 points in the paint and forced 20 turnovers by the Chargers.

“This was a good battle,” said Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos. “We got out to an early lead thanks to some hot shooting from Cole Gilsdorf, but could never run away from BE. Every time we made a run they would counter and keep themselves within striking distance. We did a really good job of getting into the paint and scoring as well as rebounding. We forced a good amount of turnovers but didn’t score off of them enough as well as had a few more turnovers than we would like. All teams are going to give you their best in the playoffs so we are excited to get to move on to the neutral site and play KMS on Saturday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.”

Clint Determan (22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists, 5 deflections), Gilsdorf (19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists), Dylan Bainbridge (12 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) and Holden Rinke (11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks) were the statistical leaders for the Buccaneers.

Brandon-Evansville was led by 22 points, 4 steals and 2 assists from Dezmond WhiteMicah Fuller was also in double digits with 19.  Brady Perleberg dished out 8 assists and Lucas Fuller had a team high 5 rebounds.

“I love how hard we played against one of the best teams in the section,” commented Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Trent Hintermeister. “We followed our game plan and kept it close the entire game. We made them work for what they got and played the game we wanted to play. They took a little bit better care of the ball than we did and they made a few more shots. I am so proud of this year's team and our improvements from start to finish. I cannot thank the 5 seniors enough for what they did this year. Aaron, Brady, Dezmond, Kian, and Nathan showed up daily and gave us everything they had. I'm thankful for them and know they will go on to do great things in life.”
