Brandon-Evansville hosted Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in a Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball contest on Friday night with the two teams battling to a 26-26 halftime tie and competing hard throughout the second half before the home team prevailed, 52-49.

Kiley Lund led B-E with 15 points and Sydney Schaefer added 10.  Olivia Otto contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds.  Schaefer led the team with 2 assists and 3 steals, while Kaytlyn Pattrin had a team high 5 rebounds, while scoring 4 points.  Lund also had 3 steals.

“Just really proud of our team right now,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “We were able to pull off another come from behind victory on back to back nights. The excitement and intensity that was in the gym tonight is what High School Basketball is all about. Hillcrest was just as deserving of a win tonight with how hard those girls played. Both teams were a little short-handed tonight which forced some other players to step up into bigger roles on the court. We talk about always believing, even when in the face of adversity, which was staring us down often tonight. Really the last two nights we've found out that there is some real heart and grit on this team. Now we get the weekend off and are back at it again on Tuesday.”

Hillcrest was led by Regan Wiertzema’s double-double (12 points, 16 rebounds).  Madi Ballweg had a game high 17 points.  Ella Knutson came through with 8 points, 16 rebounds and 4 steals, while Ruby Peterson added 9 points and 6 steals.  Alivia Holmquist contributed 3 points and 4 rebounds.

“I thought the girls played really well tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “They played hard and they played unselfish. It came down to free throws at the end of the game and our team just couldn’t knock them down. Late in the game we had a stretch where we made 1 of 6 free throws, including 2 misses of the front end of a one and one.  Give credit to BE they played great down the stretch and hit some big shots. Regan played her best game this season, Ella also did a great job on the boards and Madi did a nice job attacking the basket.”

Brandon-Evansville (7-6) will host Upsala on Tuesday night and Underwood next Friday.

Hillcrest (4-7) has Little Eight Conference road games on Tuesday at Ashby and Thursday at Rothsay.
