The Underwood Rockets trailed 42-30 after a competitive first half of Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball action against Brandon-Evansville, however, the Chargers held Underwood to just 10 second half points as they posted an 84-40 victory.

“We had an excellent first half,” stated Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck. “We knocked down some shots, and played excellent defense on the help side. We just didn’t come out in the second half and communicate like we need to. We played very hard, and I’m proud of our team on how hard they work and compete every game.”

Leading scorers for Underwood were eighth-grader Drew Evavold with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, freshman Evan Lundgren with 10 points and 3 steals, and freshman Kaleb Hammes with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

“I thought we were slow, unaggressive, and not ready to play in the first half,” commented Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Trent Hintermeister.  “Underwood played harder and executed better than us for the first 18 minutes.  In the second half, our guys came out much more aggressive and played team defense to get the win.  We were able to get everyone in the game and see some players get extended minutes which is always fun.  Coach Shebeck does a really nice job with his team.  They are young and have great potential to be a dangerous team in the future.”

The Chargers were led by Titus Fuller (18 points, 7 rebounds), Tyler Bitzan (14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals, 4 deflections), Dezmond White (12 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 deflections) and Brady Perleberg (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals).

Brandon-Evansville shot 52.5% from the field and held the Rockets to 30% shooting.  The Chargers also dominated the boards 42-24 and forced 27 Rocket turnovers.

“We have 2 more road games next week before we finally get a couple home games,” said Coach Hintermeister. “Starting off our season with 11 of our first 12 games on the road has been a good test for us mentally.”
