Underwood defeated Brandon-Evansville 3-1 (25-11, 25-21, 23-25, 25-12) in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Thursday night in Evansville.

“Tonight was a good win for us,” stated Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “We had to work through the heat, exhaustion after a lot of volleyball this week, a loud fired up crowd, and a B-E team that kept fighting back.”

Underwood was led by Elizabeth Lukken (15 kills, 11/12 serving, 2 aces, 9 digs), Alayna Evavold (11 kills, 16/16 serving, 5 aces), Ezrah Baker (10 kills, 7/7 serving, 17 digs), Becca Johnson (24/24 serving, 3 aces, 10 digs), Kallyn Grove (16/16 serving, 1 ace, 42 set assists, 13 digs), Chloe Mark (8 kills, 4/4 serving, 2 aces), Brooke Christianson (7/7 serving, 1 ace), Brianna Evavold (13 digs) and Amber Frigaard (8/9 serving, 8 digs).

“Tonight we faced off against Underwood at home and with both our teams being undefeated in conference play we knew it was going to be a battle from the first serve,” said B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson. “Underwood took control of the first set while we struggled to serve receive out of the gate. Out of system balls were what we relied on to keep rallies alive, but Underwood continued to pick up everything we sent over the net. While we were able to rally back and put up a good fight in the second set, we entered the locker room at intermission down two sets. Going into the third set, we knew what we had to do in order to stretch out this match. Our girls were able to get hands on the net and we had lots of touches to keep rallies alive on our side of the net. We were able to pull out a hard fought third set in order to extend the match. Underwood controlled the majority of the fourth set and was able to close out the match with their scramble plays and smart ball placement.”

Serving leaders for the Chargers were Kendall Hoidahl (21/22, 5 aces), Taylor Yeats (12/12, 2 aces), Sydney Schaefer (12/13, and Olivia Otto (7/7).  Yeats and Gretchen Bredberg led the attack with 6 kills each.  Kylee Dingwall, EmmaLee Brethorst and Otto each had 5 kills.  Schaefer distributed 26 set assists and had 10 digs.  Yeats and Otto led the team with 15 digs apiece and Taylor Suchy added 10 digs.

The Chargers will be back in action Monday night on the road against Hancock.
